I enlisted in the navy from high school in March 1964. After boot at Great Lakes I was sent to radar A school. My first ship in 1965 was the USS Corry DD 817 in Norfolk, Va. Second ship in 1966  was USS New in Norfolk and then discharged in 1968 after 2 med cruises in 65 and 66, both with trips to the Red Sea, Persian Gulf, India and Africa , 4 trips thru the Suez canal, an equator crossing as well as other sandy wastelands in the middle east. A West Pacific cruise in 67 to Veitnam, with 2 trips thru the Panama canal
I reenlisted in 1973 and was sent to the USS Morton DD 948 home ported in Hawaii but on deployment off the coast of Veitnam. In 1974 I made a 3rd trip the the West Pacific where I met and married my wife.

Above is at the adopt a highway sign for  the Sons of Confederate Veterans in LaPlata, Maryland., a heritage organization I am proud to be a member of. We do the clean up 4 times a year and she is always there to help too.
When on the Morton and living in base housing in 1975, OS 3 John Lyons gave me a 6 month old pup. Charlie. He was the best dog I ever had.  This was about 1981. He lived to be just shy of 14 years.
He was a good dog and a good friend.
And a different kind of uniform. April 2001 at a living history in Port Tobacco,Maryland. Replica uniform of one of my many Maryland ancestors who served the 2nd Md. Inf. Co F. CSA. Just one more thing I love doing these days.
Just 2 of many ways I make a living. Left is with my old mixer about 1999. Above Janurary 1981 for the same company after removing a motor from a crane at the gravel pit.
In 1976 while on Morton my son was born. This is Tom in May 2002 during the Edson field day.
