Rick Palmer was OS2 on board from March 73 to Nov 76 |
I enlisted in the navy from high school in March 1964. After boot at Great Lakes
I was sent to radar A school. My first ship in 1965 was the USS Corry DD 817 in
Norfolk, Va. Second ship in 1966 was USS New in Norfolk and then discharged
in 1968 after 2 med cruises in 65 and 66, both with trips to the Red Sea, Persian
Gulf, India and Africa , 4 trips thru the Suez canal, an equator crossing
as well as other sandy wastelands in the middle east. A West Pacific cruise in
67 to Veitnam, with 2 trips thru the Panama canal I reenlisted in 1973 and was sent to the USS Morton DD 948 home ported in Hawaii but on deployment off the coast of Veitnam. In 1974 I made a 3rd trip the the West Pacific where I met and married my wife. |

I met my wife Anita in 1974 in the Phillipines. Still married. Left is 1996 we are
going out to dinner somewhere. Above is at the adopt a highway sign for
the Sons of Confederate Veterans in LaPlata, Maryland., a heritage organization
I am proud to be a member of. We do the clean up 4 times a year and she is always
there to help too. |
When on the Morton and living in base housing in 1975, OS 3 John Lyons gave me a
6 month old pup. Charlie. He was the best dog I ever had. This was about
1981. He lived to be just shy of 14 years. He was a good dog and a good friend. |

In 1977 I moved back to Annapolis and into this house in 1978. Been here ever since.

The first reunion I went to was in October 2002 at Roanoke , Va. It was a grand hotel
too. This was for the USS Corry which I was on in 1965. We had a good time
and hope to go to many more ships reunions for all three.. |
