Corwin Allan Bell Commander Corwin A. Bell was born in Birmingham, Alabama and attended high school in Columbus, Georgia. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and his commission via a Navy scholarship to Duke University. He later earned a Master of Science Degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. Commander Bell served at sea in USS CONSTELLATION (CV64), USS REEVES (CG24), and USS ROBERT E. PEARY (FF1073). During 1969-1970 he served as Senior Advisor to Vietnamese River Assault and Interdiction Division (RAID) Seventy-two in the U-Minh Forest of the Mekong Delta. His ashore assignments include Headquarters, U.S. Forces Japan; Staff, Commander Third Pacific Fleet. Commander Bell has attended the Naval Destroyer School, Surface Missile Systems School, and Senior Officer Ship Material Readiness Course. Commander Bell was the 15th and final Commanding Officer of USS MORTON, commanding her from 19 January 1981 until her decommissioning on 22 November 1982. Commander Bell was awarded a Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguished Device “V”, a gold star in lieu of a second award of the Bronze Star, a Joint Services Commendation Medal, a Navy Commendation Medal, and various unit and campaign awards. After the decommissioning of USS MORTON, Commander Bell was assigned as Executive Officer of the Naval Station, Pearl Harbor, where he earned the Meritorious Service Medal. He retired from active duty on 1 July 1987. Upon retirement, he worked as a port captain and port engineer for DYNCORP-SEA MOBILITY, a company that operated and maintained the Navy’s TAGOS surveillance ships. After two years, he established his own business as a contracts consultant, writing claims and proposals on government contracts for West Coast shipyards. Until completely retiring in 2002, he was the Program Manager for Brace Management Group’s contract with the U.S. Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Headquarters in San Diego.
